How to Listen to Machines.

There is a certain sensitivity that one needs when listening to machines….

I discovered that I had a gift with machines at a very young age.
I didn't know it was a gift until I encountered someone who didn't have it.

Machines are as alive as you or I.  They are made of molecules and particles….

What Happens in Vegas Arts Doesn't Always Stay Downtown.

Not many people know that Las Vegas has been a growing hub
for the visual Arts over the last 5 years!

That is correct!

Las Vegas, better known as the gambling capitol of the world,
has been developing an artistic community that promises to be
a whole other reason for tourists to head to this desert paradise.

The gaming communities' one predominant supporter is the The Cosmopolitan.
Here it was announced earlier this year that they would be hosting an Artist-in-Residence program at P3Studio.

When Packing Reminds You of Stuff You Don't Need!

You know I've packed often in my life......
like most people who travel for business.
The life of an artist is to pack up and take off
for the love of your craft and new audiences.

One thing I've discovered about packing
for long contracts of say 3-6 months is
you have to be careful of the weight of your bags!!!
In other words don't bring too much stuff!

When Social Networking Becomes Highly Unsocial.  Please share.

By sharing something, I realized that I'm not alone, that there are a lot of people that share with me the same preoccupations, the same ideas, the same ideals, and the same quest for a meaning for this life. - Paolo Coelho

There's something about scrolling your news feed and seeing what your next door neighbor and what people around the world are sharing.....

There's something about getting a response to what you've left for the public to read.

There's something about finding out something that you never would have known otherwise.

What an Attitude of Gratitude Can Do To Revive Your Life!

Yes, yes, yes!  Gratitude is such an amazing thing!
Forgive my excitement!

I just think that gratitude is even more important than  love.
Thats right, I said it.

When you're grateful, you're grateful.
There's never any judgement in gratitude.

Now, love on the other hand.....can have major judgement attached.

Blogging has been one of the most surprisingly gratifying things I've done in years!

In case you didn't know, I'm a jazz singer and my whole approach to singing is based on improvisation.

Therefore, I seek fresh ideas and I continually push myself to explore in ways I'd never thought of before!

Blogging has done all of that and more!

You've Got to Ask A Question!
How does it get any better than this?

I started using this question regularly about 12 years ago.

In the matrix called our reality, the phrases you hear most frequently is
"It can't get any better than this!" Or "how can it get any worse?"

Both of the above phrases basically create a movement of energy.

The first by stunting the situation from getting even better.

The second on the other hand, will begin to make things worse.  Wait for it.

My desire in sharing this phrase with you all is to get you to think about
what is coming from your lips........all of which started in your head.

Where to find Quality WINE, at a Great Price in Tokyo?

Being a red WINO, I know how important it is to find good wine at an affordable price, especially when you travel a lot.
I've been coming to Tokyo for 7 years and in the beginning I only found wine at the local 7 Eleven or at the local grocery store. Both of which did not satisfy my taste buds, though the cost wasn't too high.....(Read More at the link above)

What's Up With the Blogging?

I've been Blogging regularly for three months!
WOW! I can't believe it!

So what's my story?

Why did I start Blogging to begin with?

I'm an international globe trotting singer with years of study in personal development.
I have seen places and lived in such a way that most people can only dream of.
I've sung in cities all over Europe and Asia and stayed in 5 star hotels where I was treated like a princess.

In our fast paced world we're always looking for ways to get things done quickly.

The same thing goes for physically warming up the voice.
Instead of the usual vocalise (exercises that warm the voice usually by singing scales), that can take a bit of time to do, this "Ripple Effect" exercise is quick and easy.

While living in Italy, I had the fortune of singing with the San Marino Symphony.  I was assigned a room in which I could warm up my vocal chords.  There was a tenor who was warming up, in a way I had never heard, in the room next to me.  We were singing in the same Cole Porter tribute concert.  I was immediately curious about this strange technique he was using.

My classical vocal training was similar to any opera singer, so when I saw him making this sound, I wanted to know more......

It was a windy Las Vegas night when I met with Theresa Goss.
Here is my interview in her series of "My Chapter and Verse."

The room that led to the interview room was eerily dark and quiet.
I finally heard Theresa call me into the space where I would bear my soul for about and hour.

I didn't know what we would speak about.
From what I could see from her Facebook page, her interviews were evocative and earthy.
The people that she interviewed were REAL and had stories that were captivating.

She is obviously on a mission to capture something… dig deep into people's psyche.

Dear family, friends, contributors and fans,

This update is way overdue. I sincerely apologize if you have been wondering and worrying what ever happened to Karen Jones's Kickstarter CD/EP project? There are many thing to tell you all.....

Let's start with my health....I had the misfortune of eating something while here in Hong Kong that landed me in the hospital for a night!! No need to worry now, but bacteria and parasites enjoyed the inner haven of my body and took my digestive organs for a ride! Not fun. After many blood tests and ultrasound exams, to my relief, it wasn't anything serious. To this day, I am overly attentive to what I put in my body. That being said, I'm happy to be back on course and focus my energies, once again, on this project.

As far as production is concerned, I'm sorry to tell you that the relationship with Mr. Black ran into a wall. Unfortunately, Mr. Black had some medical issues and other difficulties that have prevented him from concluding his part in production. I have since contacted another company to mix and master the CD/ EP. I'll keep you updated on the progress.

The good news is that I will return to the United States the first week of September where I'll be able to follow production more closely. After a conversation with the project's marketing director, Thornell Jones, we have both chosen the end of September as the perfect launch date. That should give us enough time to finish these last few production checkpoints..... I can't wait to tell you about the CD designer, that'll be my next surprise......

Other than my stomach adventures, my time here in Hong Kong has been lovely. I've met some interesting people and shared some beautiful music nightly with Marcas Johnson (piano) and Pablo Perez (bass)!!! The Captains Bar at the historic Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong will never be the same! :-)

It's been a long time to be out giggin' and even longer to be away from home. I look forward to being on US soil and seeing you all at the big launch party of this kickstarter project this fall!

How does it get any better than this?

Magical possibilities,

Dear family, friends, contributors and fans,

The good news is the CD is going through its final tweaks and should be ready before the end of June!

I'm so sorry for the delay.

Though we live in a high tech world, my being on the other side of the planet has slowed down the process just a little. I'm as excited as you are to finally have the product we've all participated in creating placed in your hands and mine!!

I also have to be sure that it is a lucrative, powerful vehicle of artistic finesse :-) Doesn't that sound delightful?!?
This CD heralds the next production that I've already begun to think about in detail......I know, I know, typical of an artist to move on to the next without having finished the first, lol.

I've been living here in Hong Kong for two months now and it has been a fabulous adventure!  Whenever I go to a city for a long period of time, there is an initial adaptation period.  I am now in a comfortable routine of day to day living, while at night, I enjoy singing to the international crowd here at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

My show is an eclectic mix of Jazz standards and well loved Pop songs.  The audience here is as diverse as Central,  the part of Hong Kong we are located in.  Sometimes, I look out and it seems as if I'm at the United Nations!! Therefore, I mix up my repertoire to please as many people as I can.  We've been so well liked that we have been asked to stay til the middle of September!!  How does it get any better than that?

Many of you don't know that I have been in a slimming down phase as I prepare for the upcoming success of my new CD! I've lost almost 50 pounds (22 kilos) since August of 2013!! Yay for me!  Yes, and now I need new photographs!I am currently waiting to make an appointment with a fabulous Hong Kong photographer to facilitate this process.I'll post some of them on my new website as soon as I'm done.

These days I'm editing the film of the making of "A New York Vibe in Tokyo". It was a great night! It will be ready in a couple of weeks for first viewing, as part of their rewards, to the largest contributors.  It will eventually be placed on my website so that everyone can watch and enjoy it.

So grateful for your contribution to my life.

Please forgive the delay in production.  It's on it's way....
Magical possibilities,

Dear friends, family, fans and contributors,

I'm currently in the beautiful city of Hong Kong!
As I prepare for another night of sweet music at the historical Mandarin Oriental hotel,
I bring you the latest update on
"A New York Vibe in Tokyo".

My trip to LA was a great success!
It was through the vast musical network of my cousin Thornell Jones,
marketing wiz extraordinaire,
that contact was made with Mr. Peter Black.

Mr. Black, an accomplished singer/musician/composer/sound engineer etc.
(a bit of a musical genius actually)
accepted the job of mixing and mastering my project.
YAY!! How does it get any better than that?

He has been doing wonderful work so far...
I've listened to Peter do his magic on several songs and WOW!
Do I really sound like that?
He really brings out the best sound in me and all of the musicians.

I will be sending you a small sample to listen to in the next update. :-)
Hold onto your seats folks we're almost done with this part of the process!!

So, what's next??? CD design.

What an amazing adventure this project continues to be!
How did I get to be so lucky?

There's a new website in the making with new photos and video clips and more.
And let us not forget the upcoming official launch of the CD. EXCITING STUFF!

Thank you all for being a part of bringing this to life!
